New Bedford Fire Department Fire Safety Open House

This Wednesday October 12th from 4 – 7pm head on over to Fire Station 2 868 Pleasant Street (Downtown New Bedford) for a free open house as part of the Student Awareness Fire Education (SAFE) program. New Bedford Firefighters will be on hand to answer questions and give attending families a tour of the fire station.

Open house attendees will learn valuable safety tips:

  • How to plan escape routes
  • The safest way to crawl through a smoke-filled room
  • Stop, drop and roll
  • plus more 

Children’s fire safety materials will be provided, as well as free pizza!

National Fire Prevention Week

The Nation Fire Protection Association‘s (NFPA) National Fire Prevention Week is October 9th – 15th this year. This year’s campaign focus is “Dont Wait: Check the Date!” and the goal is to make sure people are aware that fire alarms and smoke detectors should be checked regularly and replaced every 10 years.

The Student Awareness of Fire Education Program

Founded in 1990 the Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) Program is a state-wide initiative to provide resources to local fire departments to conduct fire safety and prevention education programs for students in Kindergarten through High School. The mission is to enable students to recognize the dangers of fire hazards.
