Spring has sprung. We’re finally seeing some beautiful sunny Spring days with seasonable temperatures, perfect for getting out on the road and feeling good. Whether you’re a novice beginning rider or a veteran cruiser, this time of the year can be tricky as far as managing the road conditions. It cannot be stated enough…Motorcycle safety is important.
This was not only a historic Winter weather-wise, but it also appears to be historic pothole-wise. They are everywhere and some of them are huge. They’re on the side streets and on the highways. You’ve gotta make sure to keep an eye out or you could wind up in a hospital or worse.
Another post-Winter hazard is sand. If the streetsweepers haven’t made their Springtime rounds yet, then you could be dealing with some slippery scenarios. Be extra cautious when you’re going around those curves or turning onto side streets to avoid having a slide out.
The weather can be a bit unpredictable this time of year. You may start out with a warm sunny day, but when the evening comes the temps sometimes dip. Don’t forget that conditions can become icy during the evenings still.
Other factors associated with this season are wind and rain. Springtime tends to feature both of these. All it takes is an unexpected gust of wind to knock you off course, or worse, off your bike! Couple that with some damp road conditions and you could have a recipe for disaster.
Beyond keeping an eye on the above mentioned hazards, the best thing that you can do is to be prepared, stay sober and alert, and make sure to keep up with maintaining your motorcycle. be safe out there!
